Meet Our Makers | Kate Taylor

Meet Our Makers | Kate Taylor

Kate has loved wood since her childhood when her Dad let her play with scraps of pine and a glue stick in his woodshop.  From there, she worked for log home builders, carpenters, and cabinetmakers before starting her own business in early 2000.  Kate creates each of her creations individually starting with local hardwood and finishes with many coats of hand rubbed natural oil and beeswax. She finds joy working with wood each day and discovering new ways of bringing out its natural beauty.

We found Kate when we were searching for a high-quality handcrafted box to hold our Party Boxes. Kate was excited to create a Martin+Mo exclusive design modifying the traditional oval Shaker hatbox into a modern aesthetic with a round base, elongated overlaping 'fingers', and stainless steel rivets.  Her beautiful walnut boxes serve as the perfect vessel for a Tea, Cake, or Birthday Party Box, and double as a bread basket, fruit bowl, tray or elevated stand to add beauty and dimension to a table gathering.

Kate now resides in Central Vermont where she was born and runs a one-woman artisan woodworking business making furniture, cabinets, and yes, shaker boxes.
